Quasi - Spin - Charge Separation and the Spin Quantum Hall Effect

چکیده

We use quantum field theory methods to study the network model for the spin quantum Hall transition. When the couplings are fine tuned in a certain way, the spin and charge degrees of freedom, corresponding to the supercurrent algebras su(2)0 and osp(2|2)−2 respectively, decouple in the renormalization group flow. The infrared fixed point of this simpler theory is the coset osp(4|4)1/su(2)0 which is closely related to the current algebra osp(2|2)−2 but not identical. Some critical exponents are computed and shown to agree with the recent predictions based on percolation. Typeset using REVTEX ∗Member of the C.N.R.S.

0 Spin - Charge Separation and the Spin Quantum Hall Effect

We use quantum field theory methods to study the network model for the spin quantum hall transition. When the couplings are fine tuned in a certain way, the spin and charge degrees of freedom, corresponding to the supercurrent algebras su(2)0 and osp(2|2)−2 respectively, completely decouple. This simpler theory is exactly solvable and some critical exponents are computed and shown to agree with...

Quantum Hall effects and edge states in layered disordered superconductors

Layered singlet paired superconductors with disorder and broken time reversal symmetry are studied focusing on edge states and the corresponding quantum Hall effects. We find quantum Hall phases with spin Hall coefficients of σ xy = 0, 2 separated by a spin metal phase. We identify a spin metal-insulator localization exponent as well as a spin conductivity exponent of ≈ 0.96. In presence of a Z...

Quantum Hall effect anomaly and collective modes in the magnetic-field-induced spin-density-wave phases of quasi-one-dimensional conductors

We study the collective modes in the magnetic-field-induced spin-density-wave (FISDW) phases experimentally observed in organic conductors of the Bechgaard salts family. In phases that exhibit a sign reversal of the quantum Hall effect (Ribault anomaly), the coexistence of two spin-density waves gives rise to additional long wavelength collective modes besides the Goldstone modes due to spontan...

Temperature Evolution of the Quantum Hall Effect in Quasi-One-Dimensional Organic Conductors

The Hall conductivity in the magnetic-field-induced spin-density-wave (FISDW) state of the quasi-onedimensional organic conductors (TMTSF)2X at a finite temperature is calculated. The temperature dependence of the Hall conductivity is found to be the same as the temperature dependence of the Fröhlich current of a regular charge/spin-density wave. Predicted dependence σxy(T ) can be verified exp...

Quantum Hall effects in layered disordered superconductors.

Layered singlet paired superconductors with disorder and broken time reversal symmetry are studied, demonstrating a phase diagram with charge-spin separation in transport. In terms of the average intergrain transmission and the interlayer tunneling we find quantum Hall phases with spin Hall coefficients of sigma(spin)(xy)=0,2 separated by a spin metal phase. We identify a spin metal-insulator l...
